The most IMPORTANT framework I've ever stumbled across

We’ve all heard of it. But how does one stay consistently disciplined every single day?

For 3 years, I’ve struggled with the same question.

My diet was horrible.

I agreed to turn my diet around, but yet, it felt astonishingly difficult because it was so easy just to give in.

The work that I needed to do was always pushed ahead for weeks, simply because it “gave me a headache”.

The sleep I was supposed to be getting seemed to be withering away at each swipe on social media.

I consumed my life away, and it seemed to take control of me.

But since then, I’ve secured a solid platform, built over $500000 worth of assets, and started this newsletter.

However, before we jump into how I fixed my horrible problem, we need to review why discipline is such a solid foundation.

And the simple reason so, is exactly:

If you win each of the 24 hours, you win the day.

If you win each of the 30 days, you win a month.

If you win each of the 12 months, you win a year.

If you win every single year, you win life.

This quote brings importance to the fact that you are the result of your daily actions.

And discipline tackles exactly that: how can we optimize our everyday so that we can win our lives?

This brings us to one of the most important pieces of advice I’ve ever to give:

And I call it: "The +1 Framework for Decision Making”

(I'm not joking when I say this framework transformed my life)

THE +1 FRAMEWORK

This framework starts with a basic truth that Socrates pointed out centuries ago:

The truly free individual is free only to the extent of his own self-mastery.

Those who cannot, or will not, govern themselves are condemned to find masters to govern over them.

Put another way:

If you cannot discipline yourself, then the world will have to do it for you.

You might be very motivated to do the things you really need to, but you might lack the discipline to do it everyday.

You might be losing the battle being fought daily against your worst enemy:

Yourself.

Now, before you can win the war, you have to understand this person we're fighting.

See, each of us have two versions of ourselves:

  • The biological you

  • The modern you

The biological you evolved over millennia with one goal, which is to keep you alive long enough to pass along your genes.

This version of you is a powerful foe who wants to keep you zoned out eating Cheetos on the couch while binging Netflix.

It's only goal is to survive.

But this is a problem for the other you, since the modern you isn't just interested in survival...

It's wrestling with questions of meaning, purpose, and legacy.

The modern you's goal is to thrive, not just survive.

So with that in mind, developing Discipline is simply a matter of making better decisions.

And a simple tactic for making better decisions and ultimately becoming more disciplined is exactly the +1 framework of decision making.

At it's core, this framework is all about treating every decision as though it's important.

Imagine standing in a road stretching to the horizon in both directions.

In front of you there are signs spaced equally that say +1, +1, +1.

Behind you, the signs say -1, -1, -1.

Each sign represents a single decision.

And with that decision, you can either make the +1 decision that moves you forward, or the -1 decision that moves you back.

It does not matter how important the decision is.

Each decision you make is an opportunity to either move forward or backwards one sign. That's it.

The power in this framework is in treating every decision as though it's important.

Which they are.

And at the end of the day, your life is nothing more than a sequence of small decisions stacked upon one another.

So, treat every decision, no matter how small, as though it were moving you towards or away from your greatness.

Because it is.
